We think of testosterone as a hormone for men but women do need a little. Sometimes, though, it gets too high. Bad news for a woman who doesn’t want hair on her chest or chin, at the same time it’s thinning on her scalp!
Here’s one reason this can happen: Inflammation affects our cells and makes them rigid. Then when the pancreas puts out insulin, to bring blood sugar down, the rigid cells can’t receive the message. So the pancreas keeps making more insulin because the blood sugar is not going down. (insulin resistance)
When the ovaries are overwhelmed with too much insulin they change in structure and are stimulated to make testosterone. (High testosterone can damage brain, kidneys, ovaries, eyes and cause infertility.)
Poor blood sugar balance can be at the bottom of many hormone imbalances and testosterone is one of them. High blood sugar is a cause of inflammation, in the first place, and it triggers insulin production!
For good blood sugar we want to eat several times per day in small amounts, making sure each meal/snack contains protein (with veggies and fruit). This is where specific types of protein rule! Not all proteins are the best idea.
One reason so many struggle with poor blood sugar control is because they are deficient in some very key nutrients required to maintain healthy levels. We’re happy to talk with you, complimentary, to fill you in on how to be on the road to NOT spiking inflammation from poor blood sugar control, increasing insulin and testosterone!
